Elsa and Moroni Toraya |
We were hoping that we would be able to be with Moroni and Elsa for their temple sealing before we were released. Fortunately the date was moved up and we were able to be with them at the temple on Saturday. We feel very close to this wonderful young couple. Robyn and I were able to help prepare Moroni to receive his endowments a few months ago as we taught the temple preparation class. And then Moroni came to us last year and said he wanted to take Elsa to General Conference in October and propose to her while he was there. He just needed an excuse to get her to go with him so he asked if we could get him some tickets to a session of conference so that Elsa would not think there was anything else planned for their trip. President Hales was good enough to send us some tickets for them, and after arriving in Utah, Moroni popped the question and the rest is history. We love them dearly.
Elsa and Moroni are great examples of putting the Lord first. We know that they will be a great strength to the ward as they are setting a pattern of making and keeping sacred covenants.

Disney and Ashli Gamez |
Disney and Ashli waited outside the temple during the sealing. Since their mom was working, we brought them with us so they could experience and see a little of what a temple sealing is all about. I think they could really feel the Spirit of the temple as they saw the joy on Elsa's and Moroni's faces as they came out of the temple. Hopefully this will reinforce in their minds to always keep the temple as their ultimate goal.
NEWEST ELDER
Daniel Hernandez was ordained an elder on Sunday by his brother in law, Ramon Andrade. Daniel has been a member about 2 years and hopes to serve a mission soon. He is a great young man and is anxious to learn and serve.
100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE U.S. ENTRY INTO WWI
Friday was the 100th anniversary of the entry of the United States into World War I. It was celebrated at the National World War I memorial here in Kansas City. As part of the celebration, the French government sent t
he Patrouille Acrobatique (French Air Force aerobatic team) to do a fly over of the ceremonies. Since we didn't have tickets to the celebration, we did the next best thing and went to a beautiful park overlooking the memorial to see the jets. There is a huge statue of the 'Scout' in the park which provided a great place to watch.
So much of what is happening in the world today can be traced back to WWI. Unfortunately this episode in our history receives little attention in our schools these days. It was nice to see patriotic Kansans and Missourians showing their pride in their country and freedom.
